Session -2 Treasure from trash - Paper Projects

Session -2 Treasure from trash - Paper Projects

Lets start our wealth making from the first category of trash material that is paper.

We use a wide variety of paper materials, color, designs, and textures, sizes and shapes.
Waste from paper is generated from newspaper, old or wornout textbooks, food & gift wraps, magazines and mails.

We should select the paper materials based on the project that we are planning to do.
At times for a wonderful finishing touch or to improve the aesthetic of the final product we might have to use fresh paper, so don't focus only on recycing waste paper at times to increase the commercial value we can use fresh papers also.

We have listed below the accessible forms of paper materials and their typical use / application while doing projects.

• Newspaper or newsprint – inexpensive, low quality paper made from wood pulp. It is
absorbent, easy to tear, readily available.

• Printer or photocopy or xerox paper – it is used for printing or photocopying or most of the letter that we receive are from this paper (marketing mails, bank statements, etc.)

• Decorative paper – any type of paper that has a design on it including tissue paper,
wrapping paper, wallpaper or scrapbook paper. Can be used for weaving, folding,
cutting and collage projects.

• Glossy paper – coated with a compound to add certain qualities like weight, surface gloss,
and smoothness. It is used for wraping food, as an alternate for plates during marriages (banana leaf), in magazines and catalogues and is colourful and bright.

• Cardstock or overweight paper – bulkier than paper used for printing or
photocopying. Feels a little like lightweight cardboard. Folds well so is great for
making boxes, and of course, perfect for making cards.

• Boxboard or carton board – Thin, generally smooth on one side, stiff and rigid but easy
to cut and lies flat. Used for packaging. Good for making patterns for tracing.

• Corrugated cardboard – Made with three pieces of boxboard with middle layer having
been pressed into s-curves or corrugations. Sturdy. Good to use for a form or base.
